Academic Collaborations

Below you can gent an idea of some of our academic collaborations. Beyond these distinguished Labs, we also work hand-in-hand with other institutions worldwide and are always open to new synergies.

IOB_Zurich

Institute of Oral Biology, University of Zurich

Our Lab has a long-standing collaboration with the Institute of Oral Biology (IOB) of the University of Zurich in Switzerland. Led by Prof. T. Mitsiadis, the IOB focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the development and regeneration of teeth and other craniofacial organs and tissues. A variety of transgenic animal models are used for these studies that involve molecular biology and experimental embryology techniques, cultures of cells and tissues, and modern imaging systems. Different stem cell populations and microfluidic devices are routinely used for in vitro and in vivo tissue regeneration essays.

Our Lab works closely together with Prof. Mitsiadis’ team in providing numerical models as a cohesive element in the interpretation of biophysical- and biochemical-assays.

K.Michalakis

School of Dentistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Our Lab is working on multiple projects with the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). Whether on advanced dental materials, implant design & optimization or advanced cellular biomechanics, we are excited to work with a proficient team like this, led by Prof. K. Michalakis. Our shared activities with the Section of Prosthodontics are however not restricted to Publications and Projects, as our Faculty co-supervise multiple Master and PhD thesis with our colleagues at the AUTh’s School of Dentistry.

Veterinary_Medicine_AUTh

Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Over the past years, we’ve developed a strong collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Our staff, currently engages in several projects with colleagues like Prof. E. Papadopoulos and Assoc. Prof. S. Papadimitriou (e.g. NanoVet), while we are also honored by invited lectures of the Faculty’s researchers (e.g. Dr. M. Kouki) at our Lab’s MSc. In Biomedical Engineering.

M.Chatzinikolaidou

Department of Materials Science and Technology, of the University of Crete

We work closely together with Assoc. Prof. M. Chatzinikolaidou, who next to her appointment at the Department of Materials Science and Technology, is also an affiliated faculty member of IESL-FORTH (also in Crete). Next to our common research interests, reflected in grant applications and scientific publications, we are privileged to have her as a guest lectures at our Lab’s MSc. In Biomedical Engineering, and a co-supervisor of our PhD students.

Laboratory_of_Neuromechanics

Laboratory of Neuromechanics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Our Biomechanics group works hand-in-hand with faculty members of the Laboratory of Neuromechanics of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Next to multiple shared publications and grants with colleagues of this Lab, we also host Assoc. Prof. F. Arabatzi as a guest lecture of our Lab’s MSc. In Biomedical Engineering.

S.Agathopoulos

Department of Materials Science & Engineering, University of Ioannina

Our collaboration with the team of Prof. S. Agathopoulos, dates back to 2013, when he was presiding the Hellenic Society of Biomechanics. We’ve since collaborated on multiple projects and shared publications, while gracing our MSc students with his lectures on Bio-ceramics and Biomaterials in general.
